How does this program differ from the regular doula program?
Code of Ethics and Standards
Students will still be required to read, understand, and adhere to DoulaVersity’s code of standards and ethics. (We still feel that everyone should uphold the same standards when representing themselves as a doula).
The Modules
When it comes to all pregnancy, and birth content, we kept the information the same.
However, we have taken out the modules that are related to the business aspects of being a doula so that students can work through the program faster. We have also taken out some mock emails, and a few other assignments that are more doula/business related. Finally, we have shortened some quizzes, and left a couple of quizzes out of the friends and family support program. The community resource list (which often takes time to complete) is not required.
Our regular doula program is composed of 15 modules, while the family and friends program has 12 modules.
The General Requirements:
Complete modules 1-12 with all assignments and quizzes
Read: "The Birth Partner" by Penny Simkin (then do the book report)
Watch: "The Business of Being Born" video (then do the video report for that).
Students will also still need to purchase and take the Spinning Babies Parent Class (This is a video about 120 min long).
Certification Limitations
The family and friends support doula will receive a temporary certification:
Unlike our regular doula program which provides certification for life, the Friends and Family Support doula will be provided with a temporary certification. This certification will expire one year after your enrollment into the program. Should students decide they would like to continue to become certified for life, they can complete the remaining modules, required reading, and other general requirements within our general doula program. Students will also be required to pay the difference once that becomes applicable.
